The primary focus of the Click Foundation is the implementation of online English literacy programmes in under-privileged primary schools across South Africa. The programmes offers young learners the opportunity to work at their own pace through fun and enjoyable activities, navigating their learning journey by means of technology. Our literacy project supports the Department of Basic Education’s policy goal of all children learning to read fluently, and with comprehension, by the end of Grade 3.
Problem Statement
- 90% of SA Students learn in English from Grade 4 onwards
- 78% Grade 4 sample learners can’t read for meaning (PIRLS 2016 Report – December 2017)
- Weak student performance in literacy & numeracy in Foundation Phase (Grades 1-3) constitute one of the major factors leading to poor learning outcomes in later grades (Spaull, Van der Berg, Wills, Gustafsson & Kotze (2016). Laying Firm Foundations. Getting Reading Right)
